Nineteenth-century house photograph
The photographer has not been identified. The photograph appeared on page 96 of The Tallow Light, vol. 53, no. 4 (2022), with the credit “S. Durward Hoag Collection; Marietta College Special Collections.” The nineteenth-century original is public domain in the United States, and this site claims no separate copyright in the faithful digital restoration. For reuse in the United States, no permission from this site is required, though keeping the collection credit with the image helps preserve its history. Harry P. Fischer's Rowena Buell home photograph
Research identified the restored cover view as Marietta College record pho001_00132: a Harry P. Fischer photograph of Rowena Buell's home at 331 Fifth Street, cataloged 1899–1949 in the Harry Philip Fischer Collection. The same photograph appeared on the cover of The Tallow Light, vol. 53, no. 4 (2022). Marietta College's catalog records the rights as “Marietta College.” The House of Seven Porches cannot license it; consult Special Collections before reuse. Diarca Howe Allen engraving
The original 1871 plate is signed “F. E. Jones, Cin.” Cincinnati directories and Library of Congress records identify him as engraver Fitz Edwin Jones. See the Cincinnati directory entry, and compare the Library of Congress attribution. Because the frontispiece was published in the United States in 1871, it is public domain here. For reuse in the United States, no permission from this site is required, though the engraver and source should remain credited. View the original frontispiece.
